Manufactured Log Homes vs. Our Amish Built Log Cabins

There is a lot of confusion in the construction industry regarding home building. Many consumers refer to manufactured log homes and modular log homes interchangeably, though there are vast differences between the two.

Manufactured Log Homes

Manufactured log homes, sometimes referred to as pre manufactured homes are not built to the same construction standards as modular homes. They are built on steel framing, have thinner walls and don't meet all residential building codes. For the purposes of financing, manufactured log homes are considered mobile homes (or what many would recognize as trailers). Even when they are built on a foundation, so that they are not really "mobile", pre manufactured homes are still treated as mobile homes and don't appreciate in value like modular constructed homes and traditional stick-built homes do.

To further the confusion many log cabin builders offer log cabin manufactured homes and modular-constructed homes in their product lines. And they often don't differentiate between the two, except when talking about pricing.

Our Amish Built Cabins

As log cabin builders ourselves, Zook Cabins understands there is a lot of confusion about the different construction terminology used to describe log home building. We field questions from customers everyday about log cabin manufactured homes, modular and prefab homes. But, we want you to understand that we don't build manufactured log homes or pre manufactured homes. Our Amish built cabins, sometimes referred to as modular or prefab cabins, meet or exceed all residential building standards in the same way that any traditional stick-built home would. The only difference between our log homes and the stick-built variety, is the way the final pieces are put together. Everything else about our Amish built cabins is the same as any traditionally-built home, from the roofing all the way to the floor boards. We do "manufacture" our log cabins in the controlled environment of our factory, but for the purposes of financing and investment potential, our homes are built to the same standards of any stick-built home and are not considered manufactured log homes. It is easy to see how our customers get confused, though!

The Bottom Line

When you started looking for information about log home builders and the possibility of owning a log cabin, you may have thought that manufactured log homes sounded pretty good. But we hope that now that we've pointed out the differences between pre manufactured homes and the Amish built cabins we build, you'll know that what you're really looking for is a modular log home that features solid construction and is fully inspected and built to residential construction standards. Our Amish built cabins are a valuable investment that will increase in value over time and can be handed down to the next generation with confidence!
